At the initiative of Late Amalprabha Das, the renowned Gandhian Social workers and Late Rajabala Das, Late Malati Barua (Padmashree awardee) Late Bhubaneswari Devi Goswami, Late Tilottoma Roychoudhury, late Induprabha Barua, late Usha Agarwala, late Hema Bharali(Padmashree awardee) late Samiran Das, Late Dipalee Das, Late Dipalee Das, late Iqnbal Kaur, Late Annapurna Barua, Late Hema Kakati and Late Aruna Barua took pains to develop the physical and mental health of te3 abandoned and underprivileged children of the society. ‘The Assam Nari and Sishu Kalyan Sadan’was thus established in 1956 on a plot of 16 Bighas land donated by Late Kamakhya Ram Barua, a noted philanthropist, at Sundarbori, near Jalukbari.
At the time, the agenda of the institution was the welfare of the destitute women and children of the society.
In the Managing Committees meeting held on 25th April 1957, the name of the home was changed from ‘Assam nari and Sishu Kalyan Sadan’ to ‘Assam Sishu Kalyan Sadan’ was registered as such under societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 vide registration no. ‘32 of 1957-58’.
The main aims of Sadan is to provide food, Clothing , shelter and education to the children stay here. Along with that we want to make them physically, mentally and emotionally sound so that they can prosper in society after leaving the children home. To make them self sufficient and productive members of the society, the managing committee try to develop their efficiency through vocational education and training is one of the most important aim of Sadan.
Assam Sishu Kalyan Sadan was formalised in 1956 and now provides shelter for around 22 orphaned children from age group 6-18 ages. We seek your generous patronage to financially support specific projects for the betterment of the orphaned children.
